Dr Wright is a general surgeon with a special interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery. He has been performing obesity surgery since 1997 and has extensive experience with all operations including gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, as well as revision procedures from previous failed operations such as gastric banding and stomach stapling . Once patients have lost weight and are requiring removal of loose skin, a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) can also be offered.
When not doing obesity surgery, Dr Wright is a busy general surgeon both in the public and private systems for elective and emergency patients. Dr Wright has a strong interest in surgery for oesophageal and gastric cancer and for reflux disease. The majority of his surgery is done laparoscopically or endoscopically.
Dr Wright is an avid mountain biker and road cyclist which helps him keep healthy, fit and alert – attributes important for all surgeons.

Yes, technically a gastric bypass surgery is reversible. However the reversal procedure is one of far greater complexity than the original gastric bypass surgery, with more risks and possible complications. This means that many centres may not offer gastric bypass reversal surgery.
No patients are the same, so there is no exact way to predict recovery for anyone after any surgical procedure. With gastric sleeves, patients need to consider recovery from the surgery itself, i.e. incision wound healing (2-4 weeks) and stomach staples healing (6+ weeks); and transitioning their diets from pureed to soft then solid foods (1-8 weeks).
There is no hard and fast rule to drinking after a gastric sleeve surgery. However you should always discuss consuming alcohol postoperatively with your treating team before you drink. Also consider alcohol’s effects on things like your healing; your metabolism of foods and liquids; the potential for nausea and vomiting; and the effects of carbonated beverages on your stomach.
